Arrived

I was up at 5:45AM this morning so I decided to call and see if the guys had arrived.

They had, and I got to talk to mom, dad, O. and Praveen. Their flight was delayed a few hours but they sounded great. Thanks for praying.

First Day On The Job

O. and Praveen left this morning for Bombay and are now waiting to catch their flight tonight to London-Philadelphia.

That means that since 9:45Am this morning I Am In Charge.

My first plans of the day were foiled early on when I found out that one of the main people that I needed to attend my afternoon "pep-talk" "Let's keep this a tight ship" "I need your support" meeting went to Bombay with O. and Praveen at the last minute. I was so not happy.

But I pulled it together and went into the office and decided to make a bunch of changes in the decor since I Am Now In Charge. This, of course, entailed - shopping.

However, before I could take care of that important work I had to deal with the first problems of the day which were several people coming to collect payments on various bills - none of which I knew anything about previously and our Accountant (who is on vacation this week) also didn't know anything about.

Oh, my mood just got better and better.

In the end I didn't get done what I wanted to do, nobody got their money, but maybe it was for the best. Tuesday - meetings - All Day.

O. & Praveen

O. with his good buddy and the President of our ministry, Praveen.
O. and Praveen will be leaving late Monday night on their flight to Philadelphia. This will be Praveen's first time out of India. He is very excited. He's been taking notes from me about what to do and say and eat and wear and everything, for a month now.

O. and Praveen will be in the USA from Jan 29 to March 3rd. Please pray for their journeys as well as the time spent there.

Here is a general schedule of their whereabouts in case you would like an opportunity to meet with them in person (they would love that...)

January 29 - February 4: New Jersey

February 5 - 9: Dallas, Texas

February 10 - 15: Indianapolis

February 16 - March 3: New Jersey

You can email me if you want to set up any appointments to talk with O. or Praveen or invite them to your church or fellowship or whatever.

Their free dates are booking up quickly, so don't delay.

And Pray!

Look We Have Walls

We have walls up on our house!
A very bright picture* with O. standing near our house so you can get some perspective. Our house is built up this high to avoid flooding in rainy season. He is in front of what will be our kitchen. The low wall on the left will be our parking area and back (family) entrance to the house.
From inside the house: our Kitchen and Storeroom.

* We tend to visit the site before heading home for lunch from the office - hence the brightness to the pictures.
These pictures were taken yesterday. (Saturday).

New Church For A Pastor

A pastor who works with us in the state of Andhra Pradesh built a church building in the village where he ministers and O. went last week for the opening.
Asleep on the train, it was a wearisome week.
Where the church previously met.
The new building. (Sorry the picture is so light...)

O. In The USA

At the end of this month O. and another of our Indian co-workers,Praveen,are going to the USA for five weeks. They'll be attending a number of conferences from February 11th - 15th but after that they will be free to meet with friends new and old.

If you want to invite them to speak or just get together, let me know. Email is the best way to contact and we'll get that set up. Contact me soon because time is short and there is really only a two-week window to meet them.

O. says while he is away- I'm Queen. :)

Orissa

Orissa is an Indian state prone to violence against Christians.

Our pastor read a letter in church today written by one of our believers who is from that state and who wanted to give a testimony on the violence going on there since December 24th. He was too emotional to speak in church, so he wrote it down.

Hundreds of believers are homeless and churches are destroyed. I talked to this man after church and he had just arrived back in our city yesterday. He had to escape in the night through the jungle alone to get out of his village because all roads had been blocked off. His wife and children are still there.

Tomorrow, January 14th, is a big Hindu holiday in India. At that time the people of his area - those causing all the trouble - will decide what to do - continue to persecute the Christians or stop.

Please pray with us.

Even though we are also in India the news of these types of things happening doesn't always reach us. It is only because a man from our own congregation was there and witnessed people coming with swords and guns outside his own house and saw the burning buildings that we even know as much as we do know.

We get caught up in our own world sometimes and we forget our brothers and sisters who are suffering. Please pray with us.

I'll try to keep you updated as I know things.

Love Hate Internet

I love the Internet, email, blogging, but I'll tell you a secret, sometimes - I hate it. It's true. Soooo not in the mood to write, to respond, yet there's the inner compulsion, - must email, must blog, must communicate.

I have nothing to say.

...must email, must blog, must communicate...

It's scary. I'm scaring myself.

House Progression

For those of you following the building of our house - here is a pictorial overview.

In December we had the actual groundbreaking of where the main pillars would be.
The foundation - dug out by hand and then this steel mesh was put together, by hand on site.
Looking down into the holes where the main foundation pillars lie.
The foundation is down, the small wall is actually part of the foundation - the actual house is going to be built on top of this. The empty spaces you see between the walls are being filled in with dirt. Our family and our co-worker families and our Bible students spent about 2 hours late Friday night filling much of it in ourselves. Everything done by hand (see next photo).
Here is a photo from 2 days ago. See how she carries that dirt on her head - that's how the whole thing is filled in. I filled in much of the foundation dirt myself - thank you very much (I didn't carry it on my head tho...) (The building you see in the background is NOT ours)

Not All The Little Details

I realize that my blog has not lived up to his name in recent months. I'm not a big one for New Year's Resolutions - so this is not one, but things are a-changin' in 2008 and I hope to get back to blogging in earnest and earnestly.

O. leaves tomorrow morning for a week in South India for the opening of a church building built by one of our pastors. He's leaving me with a bunch of stuff to do, but just the fact that my house will be "guest-free" for the first time in a month should allow me the extra time I need to blog.

New Year's Day Baptisms - 2008

Happy New Year!

Eleven people were baptized this morning. Three girls from our Children's Home.
Two believers from church.
Six Bible Students. (This may be India, but January is still cold - poor guy looks like he's freezing!)
Praise the Lord! Afterwards we had a worship service, partook of the Lord's Supper together and then ate! Cricket, swimming and dancing were also part of the day's activities.
